CSA Box: September 13

Read more about why I love CSA and locally–grown fruits and veggies here.

This week’s box:

9.15box

  • amara
  • 3 sweet potatoes
  • 5 late summer squash
  • 3 peaches
  • 2 eggplant (eggplants? we’ve had this conversation before, haven’t we?)
  • honey
  • lettuce head
  • navy beans
  • butter lettuce

A la carte items:

9.15alacarte

  • that chevre again (can’t get enough)
  • what the girl at the checkout described as “a whole lotta rice”

PS: I gave a split second’s thought to ironing that tea towel before I took these pictures, but I gave that a hearty laugh. We’ve all got to draw the line somewhere, and mine is firmly at “just barely mediocre.”

The total was $40, and we’re hoping never to run out of rice again.

Bonus:

9.15peppers

A colleague who grows peppers brought me a bunch on Monday. (Is this where I type #blessed? Am I doing this right?)

And because I know you’ve been waiting for 3 days to know my meal plan:

  • Monday: sauteed peppers, summer squash, amara, and sausage over—you guessed it!—rice; salad
  • Tuesday: leftovers
  • Wednesday: eggplant mini pizzas
  • Thursday: my husband is having leftovers while I have dinner with a dear friend
  • Friday: wine and cheese

My turkey sandwiches have been heavy on the leafy greens this week, and I’m enjoying local honey in my tea. I’m saving the sweet potatoes and navy beans for next week.

I know the suspense is killing you. Wink.
